Problem

Likely cause
  • Caliper slide pin is sticking
  • Slide pin is rusted due to running out of grease
  • Slide pin boot and sleeve are damaged due to heat and friction
Solutions
  • Check slide pin for rust and replace if necessary
  • Apply anti-rust grease on a slide pin
  • Check slide pin boot and sleeve for damage, replace if necessary
  • Apply rubber grease on slide pin boot and sleeve

  • Seized caliper (due to parts rusted shut)
Solutions
  • Replace pistons and slide pins
  • Replace slide pin boots and sleeves
  • Replace piston seals
  • Apply anti-rust grease on slide pins
  • Apply rubber grease on slide pin boots and sleeves
  • Apply rubber grease on piston seals
  • If caliper body is severely damaged by rust, replace the caliper
